Acne & Blackheads

Q: My pores are enlarged, and I have closed and open blackheads and acne. Is there a solution for this?

A: Blackheads and enlarged pores are caused by excessive keratin accumulation which hinders oil discharge. This is an ideal breeding ground for bacteria which cause inflammation and acne issues. Macromolecular Mandelic Acid, which has lipophilic properties and is non-irritating, mildly metabolizes, unclogs the pores, and dissolves oil. It also maintains keratin metabolism at normal levels.

Q: What is the difference between acne and blackheads?

A: Acne is an inflammatory skin condition which is caused by the clogging of the sebaceous glands of hair follicles. Acne formation can be broken down into the following five stages: 1. Blackheads (pimples), 2. Papules, 3. Pustules, 4. Induration, 5. Cysts. Non-inflamed blackheads are the forerunners of acne. It is generally assumed that acne formation is caused by excessive lipid secretion and that reinforced oil control and facial cleansing can inhibit acne growth. However, this is often counterproductive.

Oil-water balance is the key to controlling acne. Users should select skincare products with highly effective, medical-grade components which inhibit oil secretion at the source of the sebum while reinforcing hydration of the stratum corneum. This ensures maintenance of a normal oil-water balance and creates flawless skin with zero oiliness.

Q: How can I treat blackheads?

A: We recommend selection of a Mandelic Acid-based product with excellent skin affinity properties which stimulates dead skin cell metabolism and renewal in a mild and non-irritating manner. This ingredient deeply penetrates the pores to clear whiteheads and effectively rejuvenates and renews the skin, which results in fading of dark spots, brightening of the skin complexion, and restoration of fair, smooth, and flawless skin without blemishes after long-term application. Please remember to reinforce hydration and sun protection after application of Mandelic Acid and avoid the use of other exfoliating products on the same day.

Recommended medical cosmetic treatments include soft laser therapies, diamond peeling, or fruit acid peeling. These procedures boost metabolism of the epidermis and improve acne and blackhead issues. A therapy consisting of 4-6 treatments is recommended.

Q: Why do I have constant acne problems? Is there a solution for this?

A: Acne is an inflammatory skin condition which is caused by the clogging of the sebaceous glands of hair follicles. Acne usually begins with the onset of puberty. Areas with well-developed sebaceous glands such as the face, the chest, and the back are especially prone to acne. The following tips can help prevent acne outbreaks:

 1. Maintain a regular routine, avoid staying up late, and try to avoid deep-fried foods.

 2. Thoroughly cleanse your skin but avoid excessive cleansing which can put a burden on the skin.

 3. Select light cosmetics with high breathability that are capable of inhibiting sebum secretion. Apply an anti-inflammatory agent or a sunscreen with a light texture before make-up to protect your skin.

 4. Avoid leaving make-up on for too long and thoroughly remove your make-up after work to allow your skin to breathe!

Q: Should I stop using skincare products if I experience an acne outbreak?

A: Acne is mainly caused by internal factors such as hormones and external factors such as stress and fatigue. If acne results from improper skincare routines, users have to reassess whether their products are too oily or if their cleansing power is too high or if they use too many products, which can place a burden on their skin. We recommend that users switch to light, mild, and simple skincare products such as our Mandelik Renewal System or Hyalucomplex Hydrating System. These products should be combined with medical treatment to effectively inhibit acne formation.

Q: How can I select the perfect facial cleansing product for oily and acne-prone skin?

A: There are many such products available on the market. Users should select products that don’t leave the skin dry or taut after use. If the cleansing power is too strong, the product will damage the sebum membrane, which causes excessive lipid secretion and oil-moisture imbalance. We therefore recommend use of mild, non-irritating, soothing, and soap-free cleansers.

Q: What should I keep in mind when selecting a sunscreen product for oily and acne-prone skin?

A: We recommend light, non-oily sunscreen products that are free of acnegenic ingredients such as Cetearyl alcohol, Octyl palmitate, Isostearic acid etc. Thorough make-up removal and cleansing on a daily basis is extremely important. We recommend our Sunscreen + Suncare System with the Sunscreen+ Smart, High-Efficacy Protection Mechanism, which effectively shields the skin from UVB and long- and short-wave UVA damage. These light, watery emulsions which are infused with hyaluronic acid, composite ceramide and mint, and tea tree essential oil ensure instant hydration and moisture replenishment and effectively prevent moisture loss. They refresh the skin, lower its temperature, and ensure long-lasting suppleness. The goal is to achieve the dual-effect of external protection and internal repair.

Q: Is dermLab serum suitable for oily and acne-prone skin?

A: We recommend 10% Niacinamide + 1% Panthenol Soothing Serum for oily and acne-prone skin!

DR. WU’s unique micro-osmotic technology ensures rapid penetration of the niacinamide and provitamin B5 into the stratum basale. The serum relieves discomfort caused by skin dryness. Ocaline, a composite soothing ingredient, has been added to strengthen the protective barrier that fends off external stimuli. An invisible protective membrane is formed on the skin surface and discomfort caused by skin inflammation is effectively relieved. This product can be used alone, or it can be blended with Hyaluronic Acid Serum at a ratio of 1:1.

Q: What products are suitable for treatment of blind acne on the body of face?

A: Mandelic Acid-based products represent an ideal choice for treatment of blind acne. Through their superior skin affinity properties and exceptional osmotic force, they stimulate keratin metabolism, purify the pores, clear blackheads, and thoroughly brighten and firm the skin and combat wrinkles. To relieve inflamed acne, these products can be combined with Anti-Acne System Intensive Blemish Spot Treatment with BHA, which contains highly concentrated Vitamin B3, Tranexamic Acid, and mild antibacterial agents. This product instantly alleviates acne, stabilizes the skin, fades dullness, and reduces formation of blackheads and acne. Hydration and sun protection should be reinforced after application of these products. Under no circumstances should Mandelic Acid and other exfoliating products be applied on the same day.

Q: Despite my thorough cleansing routine, blackheads still pop up constantly and my pores are enlarged. Is there a solution for this?

A: Blackheads are caused by dead skin cells and accumulated sebum secretions. They are therefore generated daily during the metabolism process. The best way to reduce blackhead formation is to add oil controlling, exfoliating products to your skincare routine and thereby stimulate metabolism. Application of Mandelic Acid or Salicylic Acid-based products also helps stimulate collagen generation, which alleviates the issue of enlarged pores.

Q: How can I remove and prevent closed blackheads?

A: We recommend seeing a licensed physician for the removal of such blackheads. Profound cleansing as part of the daily skincare routine is the key to preventing blackhead formation. We recommend use of a Deep Cleansing Mask with Activated Charcoal that helps soften the keratin and profoundly cleanses oil and dirt clogging the pores. Mandelic Acid-based products may be selected to boost metabolism of dead skin cells and skin renewal and thoroughly remove deep blackheads. Under no circumstances should Mandelic Acid and other exfoliating products be applied on the same day.

Q: Is it necessary to hydrate oily skin?

A: Yes. Hydration is important even for oily skin since dehydrated skin secretes even more lipids. We recommend use of our Mandelik Pore Refining Essence Toner. It inhibits oil secretion at the source of the sebum and strengthen the moisture retention functions of the stratum corneum. This ensures maintenance of a normal oil-water balance and creates flawless skin with zero oiliness.

Q: My skin is oily on the surface, dry underneath, and prone to acne. Is there a solution for this?

A: We recommend a combination of our Mandelik Renewal System and Hyalucomplex Hydrating System products.

Mandelic Acid effectively tightens pores, clears acne, effectively conditions the stratum corneum, ensures normal keratin metabolism, and gives the skin a delicate appearance.

Mandelic Acid-based products should be combined with appropriate cleansers, Hyaluronic Acid for reinforced hydration, and adequate sun protection during the daytime.

Q: My skin is shiny around the T-zone but dry on the cheeks. What skincare products should I use?

A:In addition to basic cleansing and sun protection as part of the daily routine, we recommend the application of different products in the T-zone and on the cheeks. Our Mandelik Renewal System can reinforce keratin metabolism in the T-zone, which alleviates oiliness. For the cheeks, we recommend our Hyalucomplex Hydrating System to reinforce hydration and moisture replenishment.
